Exercise:
Calculate the threshold frequency and cut-off wavelength for zinc and for caesium.

Solution:
The threshold frequency for zinc is f_ fzF fracWznch fracWzJnch fz approx resultfzS The cut-off wavelength is thus lambda_ fraccf_ fracnccfz laz approx resultlazP- The cut-off wavelength can also be calculated directly from the work function: lambda_ frachcW_A frachcWz laz approx resultlazP- This wavelength is in the UV range which explains why the photoelectric effect does not work with visible light for a zinc plate. vspacemm For cesium W_AWc we find in the same way that f_ fcS lambda_ lacP- This is in the visible range red.
